What pixel pitch should I select for LED display?

First of all, we need to learn about what is “PIXEL” and “PIXEL PITCH”.

 1.Learn about “Pixel”

 A pixel is the smallest cluster of a LED module or LED screen image, each cluster is composed of 3 color LEDs, one red, one green and one blue, indicates a pixel

Based on same area size LED screen or LED module, small LED cluster means there will be more pixels on the LED screen, presents a higher resolution and a more vivid image.

2.Learn about “Pixel pitch”

What is pixel pitch?

The LED sign industry uses pixel pitch as a standard measuring in millimeter to calculate the resolution of a LED display based on the distance of LED clusters – also known as a pixel.

Pixel pitch is the middle of a pixel to the middle of the adjacent pixel in millimeters.

Smaller pixel pitch means the shorter distance between two pixel.

The more pixel  pitches, the higher resolution, the better images.

3.What pixel pitch should I select for LED display?

Generally speaking, the pixel pitch of an LED screen is determined by 2 factors:

1.Viewing distance

2. LED screen size

Pixel pitch is important for your LED screen, because it matters your LED screen resolution and optimal viewing distance, narrow pixel pitches are for closer viewing distance with ultra high  resolution.

Bigger pixel pitches are most used for outdoor applications, for instance, SMD P6.67mm, P8mm, P10mm, DIP P10MM, P16mm and P20mm, bigger pixel pitches need large customized electronic signs size to reach adequate resolutions.

So a giant  format outdoor billboard doesn't need a very narrow pitch due to its LED sign size and viewing distance.

About the minimum viewing distance, for example, P8mm,the minimum viewing distance is 8meters and the maximum viewing distance is 30 times of height(based on the height of your LED screen).
